Preventive Dentistry

In addition to brushing and flossing consistently at home, undergoing routine examinations and cleanings twice a year at our practice is one of the best ways to preserve your oral health and prevent future concerns. Furthermore, patients who are at a high risk for decay should undergo more frequent visits. In some cases, we will use sealants or fluoride treatments to provide teeth with an added layer of protection from decay, which can be particularly beneficial for child patients. Periodontal Care

When left untreated, periodontal (gum) disease can lead to a range of oral health concerns. If we diagnose you with a moderate case of gum disease, we can perform a scaling and root planing procedure (also known as a deep cleaning) to eliminate bacteria from above and below the gum line. We can also treat pockets of bacteria with ARESTIN®, an antibiotic. In cases of a severe periodontal infection, we refer patients to skilled specialists in the area.

Oral Cancer Screening

Drs. Tim and John Assey seek to help protect both the oral and overall health of patients. As part of this commitment, we perform oral cancer screenings during routine examinations. During an oral cancer screening at our practice, we shine a special light on oral tissues. The light helps us detect abnormalities that could go unseen by the naked eye. When we do spot a cause for concern, we recommend patients undergo a biopsy for a professional diagnosis.

TMJ Disorder Treatment

TMJs connect the lower jaw to the skull. TMJ disorder occurs when these joints become strained, inflamed, or damaged in some way. Fortunately, patients who suffer from TMJ disorder can often find relief through minimally invasive splint therapy. With this approach, we will provide you with a custom-made oral appliance. The appliance will be specially designed to gently move your jaw into proper alignment and reduce strain on your TMJs.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep apnea is a potentially serious condition that causes breathing to be repeatedly interrupted during the night. We offer non-surgical splint therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which occurs when throat muscles relax and block the airway. We work with an advanced dental lab to provide patients with custom sleep apnea oral appliances. If we find that splint therapy is not right for you, we can refer you to a sleep apnea specialist for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment or surgery.

Sedation Dentistry

If you suffer from dental anxiety, we offer several sedation options to help you remain at ease while receiving the quality oral care you deserve. Dr. Tim Assey is certified to administer oral-conscious sedation, so you can rest assured that you are in highly skilled hands. With oral-conscious sedation, you will take special medication that will put you into a state of deep relaxation. However, you will still be awake and able to respond to questions and commands. In addition to our sedation options, we will also take the time to explain your diagnosis or upcoming treatment in detail so that you can feel comfortable and confident about your care.

Halitosis

Halitosis, or chronic bad breath, can be caused by a number of factors, including gum disease, an oral infection, or the buildup of plaque. We offer several different treatments to address halitosis. We can prescribe Biotene® tooth paste to eliminate oral bacteria or perform a tongue scraping. If we find that a PH imbalance is the cause of your bad breath, we also offer a variety of in-office and take-home rinses.

Extractions

In cases of a severe infection or dental damage, tooth extraction may be the best way to preserve a patient's oral health. Fortunately, Drs. Tim and John Assey use anesthesia and a gentle touch to ensure our patients comfort during extractions. We can perform both basic and surgical extractions, depending on your needs. After undergoing an extraction, we offer a range of restorative treatments — including dental implants — to renew the appearance and function of your smile.

Laser Therapy

At Assey Dental Associates, we have a soft-tissue laser that can be used to address a number of concerns. We can use laser therapy as a minimally invasive treatment for ulcers. In addition, if you suffer from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, we can use our laser to relieve pain by reducing tension on your jaw joints. We will discuss your concerns during a personal consultation to determine if you may benefit from laser therapy.
