Dental Implants Offer a Lifetime of Support for Restorations
As experts in dental implants treatments, Drs. Tim and John Assey in Mt. Pleasant, SC, offer comprehensive care from start to finish. Implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed in the jaw to serve as artificial tooth roots. Once healed, they can provide a lifetime of unparalleled support for dental restorations. Benefits of Dental Implants
No matter if you are missing a single tooth or an entire row, we can use dental implants to renew the strength, function, and appearance of your smile. Dental implants are widely considered to be the best restorative treatment available because of the unique benefits they provide. These include:
- Stability: Traditional restorations are secured by clasps or adhesives. However, by supporting your crown, bridge, or denture with dental implants, you can eat, speak, and smile with the confidence of knowing that your restoration will never move out of place.
- Comfort: Implant-supported restorations sit directly against the gum line, so they will not irritate gum tissue.
- Improved oral health: After tooth loss, the surrounding area of the jawbone will naturally begin to recede. Dental implants return stimulation to this area, which helps to halt jawbone recession. No other restorative treatment can provide this benefit.
In order to qualify for dental implants, you should be in good oral and overall health. Additionally, you must have sufficient jawbone density to support the implant posts. If we find that jawbone recession is precluding you from treatment, our doctors can perform a bone grafting procedure to help you qualify.
If you will be receiving a full-arch implant supported denture, we can often secure this prosthesis with only four dental implants by using the innovative All-on-4® technique.
Undergoing a Dental Implants Treatment
Receiving dental implants is a multi-step process. The first step is implants placement. Dr. Tim Assey or Dr. John Assey will begin the process by creating small incisions into your gum line. Next, your doctor will insert titanium implant posts directly into your jaw. The number of implants being placed will depend on the restoration you will be supporting. If you will be receiving a full-arch implant supported denture, we can often secure this prosthesis with only four dental implants by using the innovative All-on-4® technique.
After the implants are in place, they will be left to heal for four to six months. During this period, the implants will fuse directly with the surrounding bone through a process known as osseointegration. We can provide a temporary restoration for you to wear while osseointegration takes place. Once the implants have completely healed, you will return to our practice so that we can secure your implant-supported crown, bridge, or denture firmly in place, instantly restoring the appearance and function of your smile. With proper care, your implants can support restorations for the rest of your life.
