Securing a Denture with the All-on-4® Technique
If you are seeking to replace several teeth, implant-supported dentures are the strongest and most stable restorations available. In the past, a full-arch denture had to be secured with a large number of dental implants. Fortunately, an innovative technique known as All-on-4® allows the team at our Mt. Pleasant, SC, practice to stabilize a full-arch denture with only four implants. Drs. Tim and John Assey have undergone extensive training in implants treatments, and they are committed to providing patients with the highest levels of care. To discover if you are a good candidate for dental implants using the All-on-4® technique, schedule a consultation today.
What Is All-on-4®?
All-on-4® is a technique used to place dental implants. With this approach, Dr. Tim Assey or Dr. John Assey will strategically place four dental implants into your upper or lower jaw. Once healed, the implants can provide a full-arch denture with exceptional stability.
During the procedure, four dental implants will be inserted into the jaw at an angle. We can typically attach a temporary restoration on the same day of surgery.
Undergoing an All-on-4® Procedure
Before undergoing an All-on-4® procedure, we will first examine your jaw using digital dental x-rays. This will allow us to evaluate the level of jawbone recession and determine ideal placement locations for the implants. During the procedure, four dental implants will be inserted into the jaw at an angle. We can typically attach a temporary restoration on the same day of surgery. The implants will be left to heal for several months, which will allow them to fuse completely with the surrounding bone. Once healed, you will return to our practice to have your full-arch denture secured in place, instantly restoring your smile.
Benefits of All-on-4®
The All-on-4® technique offers several benefits, including:
- Stability: Traditional dentures are secured by clasps or adhesives, so they can sometimes move out of position. Since dental implants function like artificial tooth roots, full-arch implant-supported dentures remain firmly in place while patients continue to enjoy all of their favorite foods.
- Minimal discomfort: Placing only four dental implants allows for a relatively short procedure and a minimized recovery period.
- Immediate functionality: The All-on-4® technique enables patients to support a restoration on the same day of surgery.
- Improved oral health: Dental implants send restorative signals to the jaw, which helps to halt the jawbone recession that occurs after tooth loss.
The surrounding area of the jawbone will naturally begin to atrophy, or shrink, after tooth loss. As a result, many patients will find that their jawbones are not dense enough for traditional implants placement. Fortunately, the All-on-4® technique allows doctors to place implants in weakened jaws. We can review the full benefits of All-on-4® during a personal consultation to help determine if this treatment is right for you.
